How to Download TikTok Videos on Android

You can download TikTok videos on Android in three ways: TikTok's own Save video button, a clean MP4 from Tiktokio.tech in Chrome, or Save to device for your own drafts. This guide shows each route step by step, where the file lands on your phone, what to do when the HD copy will not play, and why a downloader APK is a risk you do not need.

Download a TikTok video on Android

  1. Try TikTok's Save video. Open the video, tap Share, then Save video. If the button is missing, the creator does not allow downloads.
  2. Copy the link. In the same Share menu, tap Copy link.
  3. Open Tiktokio.tech in Chrome. Go to Tiktokio.tech, touch and hold the box, tap Paste, then Download.
  4. Pick a file. Choose the MP4 without watermark, the HD MP4 if your phone plays HEVC, the audio or the slideshow images.
  5. Find it on your phone. Open the Files app, tap Downloads and sort by date, or open Chrome, More, Downloads.

What are the ways to download TikTok videos on Android?

There are three honest ways to download TikTok videos on Android: TikTok's own Save video button, a web tool such as Tiktokio.tech opened in Chrome, and TikTok's Save to device option for your own drafts. All three give you a normal video file that plays offline.

Which one you use depends on the post. The in-app button is quickest but only shows up when the creator allows it, and the saved copy may carry a watermark. The browser method gives you a clean MP4, an HD copy or just the sound. Drafts are a special case because only you can see them.

Every route ends with a normal video file on your phone.
The three Android routes at a glance.
MethodWhat you getWatermarkWorks when the creator turned downloads off?
TikTok Save videoA copy in your GalleryMay include the TikTok watermark and usernameNo, the button is hidden
Tiktokio.tech in ChromeMP4, HD MP4, audio or slideshow imagesNo moving watermark on the MP4Only if TikTok still serves the file for the public post
Save to device on a draftYour own unposted videoNo watermark by defaultNot relevant, it is your own content

What do you need before you start?

  • An Android phone with the TikTok app or any browser, Chrome works well.
  • A public TikTok post. Private posts, deleted posts and other people's drafts cannot be saved.
  • A little free storage. A short clip is usually a few megabytes; the sound on its own is far smaller.
  • Permission to reuse the clip if you plan to repost it anywhere.

How do you use TikTok's Save video button on Android?

Open the video in the TikTok app, tap Share on the right side, then tap Save video. TikTok shows a confirmation pop-up and the clip goes straight to your phone's gallery.

Save video only appears when the creator allows downloads.
  1. Open the TikTok app and go to the video you want to keep.
  2. Tap the Share arrow on the side of the video.
  3. Tap Save video in the share sheet.
  4. Wait for the confirmation, then open Gallery or Google Photos to check the clip.

Is there a faster way inside the app?

Yes. TikTok's help centre describes a quick save: press and hold on the video, then pick Save video from the pop-up menu. It skips the share sheet but follows the same rule, so it only appears when the creator allows downloads.

Will the saved copy have a watermark?

It can. TikTok says saved videos may include the TikTok watermark and the creator's username, depending on the creator's settings. If you need a clean file for a project you have the rights to, the browser method below gives you an MP4 without the watermark.

Why is Save video missing for some posts?

Save video is missing because the creator has switched off downloads for their content. It is a creator setting, not a fault on your phone, and reinstalling TikTok will not bring the button back.

“If the save option is not visible for a video, the creator has disabled downloading for their content.”

There are also accounts where downloads are off and cannot be turned on at all. TikTok explains it this way:

“If your account is private or if you're under the age of 16, your video downloads setting is turned off by default and you can't turn it on.”

TikTok lists what else changes when a creator turns downloads off:

  • Other people cannot save the creator's videos or photos to their device.
  • They cannot turn the videos into live photos or GIFs.
  • Some direct shares to third-party platforms disappear, although links and direct messages still work.
  • Turning the setting off also covers videos the creator posted earlier, not only new ones.

If TikTok does not serve the file for a post, we cannot get it either. Tiktokio.tech only fetches what TikTok already delivers for a public post, so treat a hidden Save button as the creator's wish and ask them before you reuse the clip.

How do you download TikTok videos on Android with Tiktokio.tech?

Copy the post's link in TikTok, open Tiktokio.tech in Chrome, paste the link and tap Download. In about one to two seconds you get a list of files, and tapping one saves it to your phone's Downloads folder.

  1. In TikTok, open the post and tap Share, then Copy link.
  2. Open Chrome and go to Tiktokio.tech. No sign-in and no app are needed.
  3. Touch and hold the input box, tap Paste, then tap Download.
  4. Pick the file: the MP4 without watermark, the HD MP4, the audio or the slideshow images.
  5. Let Chrome finish the download, then open it from the notification or the Files app.

A public post usually resolves in 0.6 to 1.8 seconds.

This is the method most people mean when they want a TikTok clip on Android without a watermark. Nothing is installed, and when you close the tab nothing of ours stays on the phone.

How fast is it? On real public posts we measured a resolve time of 0.6 to 1.8 seconds. After that the speed depends on your connection, because the file itself comes from TikTok's own CDN rather than from our servers.

What happens to your data? Very little, by design:

  • Download links expire after 1 hour.
  • We do not store the videos, sounds or images.
  • The file is delivered from TikTok's own CDN.
  • No account and no app to install.

Tap Share on the post and choose Copy link. Android puts the address on the clipboard, ready to paste into the Tiktokio.tech box.

The link is all Tiktokio.tech needs.

Yes. If you watch TikTok in Chrome, the address bar already holds the link.

  1. Tap the address bar on the TikTok post.
  2. Select the full address and tap Copy.
  3. Open a new tab and go to Tiktokio.tech.
  4. Touch and hold the box, tap Paste, then Download.

A working link looks like one of these:

  • A long address with tiktok.com/@username/video/ followed by a number.
  • A shorter share address on a tiktok.com subdomain, which is what Copy link usually gives you.
  • A photo post address that contains /photo/ instead of /video/, which you can paste into the photo downloader.

If the paste box rejects your link, check that you did not copy extra text with it. Some apps add a sentence before the address when you share.

Where do downloaded TikTok videos go on Android?

Files you save through Chrome land in your default download location, which on most phones is the Downloads folder. Videos saved with TikTok's own button go straight to the gallery instead.

“To find all the files that you've downloaded to your device, open the Files app.”

What if your phone has no Files app?

Google notes that if you cannot find the Files app, your device manufacturer might ship a different one. Google also warns that some steps vary by device.

  • Open your phone maker's own file manager.
  • Look for a folder called Download or Downloads.
  • Sort by date so the newest TikTok file is on top.
  • Still nothing? Open Chrome, More, Downloads, and tap the file there.

Chrome's own list lets you share, rename or delete the file.

Google Photos and most gallery apps list the folders stored on your phone, called device folders in Google Photos. If the MP4 does not show up or you want it backed up, turn on backup for the folder that holds your downloads.

  1. Open the Google Photos app and sign in.
  2. Tap your profile picture at the top right.
  3. Tap Photos settings, then Backup.
  4. Under Settings, tap Back up device folders.
  5. Turn on the folder that holds your downloads.

Which video files can Google Photos back up?

Google lists .mp4, .mov, .m4v, .mkv and several other formats, with videos up to 10 GB each. A TikTok MP4 is far below that limit. Remember that backed-up items use your Google Account storage, which is shared with Gmail and Google Drive.

  • MP4 from Tiktokio.tech: supported by Google Photos backup.
  • HD MP4 (HEVC): supported as an .mp4 container; playback depends on your phone.
  • Audio file: not a photo or video, so it stays in Downloads or a music app.
  • Slideshow images: JPG or WebP pictures that Google Photos can back up like any photo.

Which file should you pick: MP4, HD or audio?

Pick the standard MP4 if you just want to watch or share the clip; pick the HD MP4 when you need the sharpest copy and your phone plays HEVC; pick the audio when you only want the sound.

TikTok does not serve an HD copy for every post. When it does, you will find it on the TikTok HD downloader and in the main results list. When it does not, the standard MP4 is the best version available.

Will the HD (HEVC) file play on an older Android phone?

Usually yes. Android has supported HEVC since Android 5.0 Lollipop, released in November 2014, so most phones from the last decade can play an H.265 MP4. Problems appear mostly on budget or very old devices.

HEVC exists because it saves space. In a 2012 demo on an Android tablet, Qualcomm reportedly showed HEVC using almost 50% less bitrate than H.264 for the same video, according to Wikipedia.

Bar chart: in a 2012 Qualcomm demo on an Android tablet, HEVC needed almost 50 percent less bitrate than H.264 for the same video
Wikipedia reports an almost 50% bitrate reduction in Qualcomm's 2012 Android demo.

“Some Android devices may only support 8-bit (Main profile) hardware decoding, but not 10-bit (Main 10 profile).”

What should you do if the HD file will not play?

  • Go back and save the standard MP4 instead; it uses the older H.264 codec almost every phone handles.
  • Try another player. Wikipedia notes that VLC 2.2.0 (February 2015) added solid HEVC playback, and its Android version can play HEVC.
  • Update Chrome. Wikipedia lists HEVC support in Chrome since version 107 (October 2022) on Android 5.0 and later.
  • Check the file finished downloading. A half-saved file fails in every player.

Does HD use more storage? Not always. HEVC packs more detail into each megabyte, so an HD copy can be similar in size to the standard file. The difference is the codec, not just the resolution.

How do you save only the sound from a TikTok on Android?

Paste the post's link into the TikTok MP3 tool and tap the audio option. You get the sound as its own small file, about 0.25 MB for a 15-second clip, which lands in Downloads like any other file.

The audio file is the track TikTok attaches to the post. Popular songs are usually protected by copyright, so keep it for personal listening unless you have permission.

How do you save a TikTok photo slideshow on Android?

In the TikTok app, tap Share, then Save photo, and use Select all to keep every image. If that option is missing, paste the post's link into the TikTok photo downloader to save each image TikTok serves.

  1. Copy the link of the photo post.
  2. Open the photo downloader in Chrome and paste it.
  3. Save the images one by one, or the slideshow's sound if you want it too.
  4. Find the pictures in Downloads or in Google Photos under device folders.

Making your own carousel instead? Our guide on how to make a slideshow on TikTok covers the creator side, including how to keep copies before you post.

Can you save TikTok stories on Android?

You can save public stories with the TikTok story downloader. Stories are temporary, so save them while they are still live; once TikTok stops serving one, no tool can fetch it.

  • Copy the story link from the creator's profile while it is active.
  • Paste it into the story tool in Chrome and pick the video or image.
  • Private accounts' stories cannot be opened.

How do you save your own TikTok videos and drafts on Android?

For your own posts, use TikTok itself. Turn on Save to device before you post, or open a draft and tap More, then Save to device. TikTok says drafts save to your gallery with no watermark by default.

How do you keep a copy every time you post?

  1. Edit your video as usual and go to the Post screen.
  2. Tap More options.
  3. Turn on Save to device.
  4. Post. A copy now lands in your gallery as well.

How do you save a draft without posting it?

  1. Go to Profile and tap Drafts.
  2. Tap the draft you want.
  3. Tap More at the top, then Save to device.

Tiktokio.tech cannot open drafts or private posts. They live only inside your account, so TikTok's own button is the only way to keep them. Our camera roll guide covers the same steps for iPhone and Android side by side.

How much storage do TikTok downloads take, and how do you free space?

A short TikTok clip usually takes a few megabytes and a sound clip far less, but a habit of saving dozens a day adds up. Android's own storage tools show how much your videos use and help you clear old files.

How do you check what is using your storage?

  1. Open the Settings app.
  2. Tap Storage.
  3. Select a category, such as videos or downloads, to see what takes space.

How do you clear space quickly?

  • Tap Storage, then Free up space, and pick files you have not used recently.
  • Turn on Smart Storage to remove backed-up photos and videos when space runs low; Google notes some of these steps need Android 14 or later.
  • Delete old downloads in the Files app; deleted items go to Trash first.
  • Back clips up to Google Photos, then remove the copies on the phone.

A few habits keep your downloads tidy:

  • Rename files in Chrome's Downloads list so you can find them later.
  • Keep one folder per project and move clips into it from the Files app.
  • Delete the HD copy if you also kept the standard MP4 and only need one.

Are TikTok downloader APKs safe to install on Android?

Be careful. Downloader APKs from outside the Play Store are installed without Google's pre-download safety check, and some ask for broad permissions. A web tool in a browser tab needs no install and no permissions, which is why we built Tiktokio.tech that way.

“It checks your device for potentially harmful apps from other sources. These harmful apps are sometimes called malware.”

Comparison: a web tool in Chrome needs nothing installed and no app permissions, while an unknown downloader APK must be installed, asks for permissions and can run in the background
A browser tab leaves nothing behind on the phone.

What does Google Play Protect do with sideloaded apps?

  • It is on by default, and Google recommends keeping it on.
  • It warns you about potentially harmful apps and may deactivate or remove them.
  • It may block an unverified app that uses sensitive permissions often targeted by scammers.
  • It can ask to send unknown apps to Google for a code-level scan.

What are the warning signs of a risky downloader app?

  • It asks you to turn off Google Play Protect or ignore a warning before installing.
  • It wants access to contacts, SMS or accessibility services that a video saver does not need.
  • It arrives as a password-protected .zip or .rar file, a pattern Chrome flags as suspicious.
  • It shows full-screen ads or opens other apps on its own.

Chrome also blocks some downloads it considers dangerous or suspicious. Google advises taking those warnings seriously, because attackers may ask you to switch them off. A video file from TikTok's CDN is not an app and cannot install itself.

TikTok Save video or Tiktokio.tech: which is better on Android?

Use TikTok's Save video when it is available and a watermark is fine; use Tiktokio.tech when you want a clean MP4, the HD copy or just the sound. Neither can open a private post or one TikTok no longer serves.

Comparison: TikTok's Save video goes straight to the Gallery, Tiktokio.tech gives an MP4 without watermark, an HD copy and the sound; neither works for private posts or when downloads are off

Saving a public clip for your own offline viewing is common, but reposting someone else's video without permission can break copyright rules and TikTok's terms. The safe habit: save your own content, or content you have permission to reuse, and credit the creator.

  • Respect a hidden Save button; it signals the creator does not want downloads.
  • Ask before you reuse a clip in your own post or advert.
  • Music in a video often has its own rights holder, separate from the creator.
  • Rights holders can reach us through our DMCA page.

Why won't a TikTok download work on Android?

Most failures come from four things: the post is private or deleted, the link was copied wrong, the phone is out of storage, or the file saved but you are looking in the wrong folder. Work through them in that order.

Troubleshooting flow: check the post is public, check the link was copied correctly, check free storage, then look in the Downloads folder

When TikTok's in-app save fails, its help page suggests these checks:

  • Use a stable internet connection.
  • Make sure there is enough storage space on the device.
  • Clear the TikTok app cache and try again.
  • If the clip saved but is missing from the gallery, check the download folder or the TikTok album.

What if Chrome itself blocks the download? A normal MP4 from a public post should not trigger a block. If you see a warning, read it, and never turn off Safe Browsing to get a file. See Google's guide to downloading files in Chrome on Android for the standard steps.

What is the quickest checklist to download TikTok videos on Android?

Here is the short version, whichever route you take. It takes under a minute once you have done it twice.

  • Try Share, Save video in the TikTok app first.
  • If it is missing or you want no watermark, tap Copy link.
  • Open Tiktokio.tech in Chrome, paste, tap Download.
  • Pick the MP4, the HD file, the audio or the images.
  • Find it in Files, Downloads, then back it up to Google Photos if you like.
  • Never install an unknown downloader APK to do the same job.

Frequently asked questions

How do I download TikTok videos on Android without the app?

Open Tiktokio.tech in Chrome or any Android browser, paste the post's link and tap Download. You can copy the link from the TikTok website's address bar if you do not have the app installed.

Why can't I see Save video on some TikToks?

The creator has turned off downloads. TikTok also keeps downloads off for private accounts and for users under 16, and they cannot turn the setting on.

Where are TikTok downloads saved on Android?

Files saved through Chrome go to your default download location, usually the Downloads folder in the Files app. Videos saved with TikTok's own Save video button go to the gallery.

Can I save TikTok videos on Android without a watermark?

Yes, for public posts. Tiktokio.tech gives you an MP4 without the moving watermark. TikTok's own Save video may include the watermark and username, while your own drafts save without one by default.

Why won't the HD TikTok video play on my phone?

The HD file is often H.265 (HEVC). Android supports HEVC since version 5.0, but some devices only hardware-decode 8-bit HEVC. Save the standard MP4 or try a player such as VLC.

Can I download private TikTok videos?

No. Tiktokio.tech only works with public posts. Private, deleted and region-blocked posts are not served by TikTok to the public, so we cannot fetch them.

Do I need to install an app or create an account?

No. Tiktokio.tech runs in the browser, with no sign-up and nothing to install. Closing the tab removes it from your screen; download links expire after one hour.

Are TikTok downloader APKs safe?

Apps from outside the Play Store skip Google's pre-download check. Keep Google Play Protect on, avoid apps that ask for contacts, SMS or accessibility access, and prefer a browser tool that needs no install.

How do I save only the sound of a TikTok on Android?

Paste the link into the Tiktokio.tech MP3 tool and choose the audio option. A 15-second sound is about 0.25 MB and saves to your Downloads folder.

Can I save a TikTok photo slideshow on Android?

Yes. Use Save photo and Select all in the TikTok app when the creator allows it, or paste the link into the Tiktokio.tech photo downloader to save each image.

Is Tiktokio.tech the official TikTok downloader?

No. Tiktokio.tech is an independent tool and is not affiliated with tiktokio.com, TikTok or ByteDance. It only fetches files TikTok already serves for public posts.
