Set a TikTok as your wallpaper
- Pick a public post. Choose the TikTok you want behind your clock. Short, slow clips with a clear subject work best.
- Convert or save it. Use TikTok's Live Photo option in the Share panel if it appears. If it does not, save the post with the TikTok HD downloader or grab a still with the photo downloader.
- iPhone: add it in Settings. Settings, Wallpaper, Add New Wallpaper, Photos, Live Photo, then pick the clip and keep the play button on.
- Android: open Wallpaper & style. Touch and hold an empty spot on the Home screen, tap Wallpaper & style, then choose your photo or a live effect.
- Apply and test. Tap Add or Apply, lock the phone, then wake it to check that the TikTok wallpaper plays.
What is a TikTok wallpaper, and what can your phone do with one?
A TikTok wallpaper is any TikTok clip or frame used as your phone's background. A moving TikTok wallpaper works best on iPhone, where a clip converted to a Live Photo plays on the Lock Screen. On Android, a still frame always works; motion depends on your phone's maker.
There are three ways to get there. TikTok can convert a post into a Live Photo for you, you can save the video file and work from it, or you can keep a single still image from the photo downloader. Which one you use depends on what the creator allows and on your phone.
| Route | What you get | Moves? | Works when |
|---|---|---|---|
| TikTok's Live Photo option | A Live Photo in your gallery | Yes, on the iPhone Lock Screen | The creator allows downloads |
| Saved HD MP4 | A full-quality video file | Only where your phone accepts video wallpapers | The post is public |
| Still image | A single frame or slideshow image | No (Pixel can add 3D motion) | Always, on every phone |
What do you need before you start?
- The TikTok app, or at least the link to a public post.
- On iPhone, iOS 17 or later for a moving Lock Screen wallpaper.
- On Android, the Wallpaper & style menu (Pixel) or your maker's wallpaper settings.
- A browser, if you use the HD downloader as a fallback.
Does TikTok have a built-in Live Photo or wallpaper option?
Yes, in part. TikTok's Help Center confirms that viewers can convert a video to a Live Photo when the creator allows downloads. We found no help article describing a separate Set as wallpaper button, so the Live Photo is the built-in route; you then set it as wallpaper in your phone's settings.
“When you allow people on TikTok to download your videos or photos, they can save your content to their device, convert your videos to live photos, GIFs, and directly share your videos or photos on other third-party platforms.”
- In the TikTok app, open the post you want as your TikTok wallpaper.
- Tap the Share button on the side of the video.
- Look along the row of options for Live Photo and tap it.
- Wait for the conversion; the result goes to your phone's photo library.
TikTok's help does not document the exact position or label of this option, and the share panel changes between app versions. If you cannot find it, scroll the bottom row of the panel sideways before you give up.
Why is the Live Photo option missing on some posts?
The creator decides. TikTok says that when downloads are turned off, viewers cannot convert those videos to Live Photos. Downloads are also off by default for private accounts and for users under 16, and those users cannot turn them on. A still from the HD file of a public post is the fallback.
Can you do it with your own TikToks?
Yes. TikTok notes that you keep the download and sharing options for your own content even with the downloads setting off. That makes your own clips the easiest source of a TikTok wallpaper. Need a backup of them first? Our guide to saving TikToks to your camera roll covers it.
How do you set a TikTok as a live wallpaper on iPhone?
Open Settings, tap Wallpaper, then Add New Wallpaper, Photos and Live Photo, and pick the clip TikTok saved. Keep the play button on so the TikTok live wallpaper plays when you wake the phone, then tap Add. Apple documents this for iOS 17 or later.
- Open the Settings app and tap Wallpaper.
- Tap Add New Wallpaper, then Photos.
- Tap Live Photo to filter the gallery to Live Photos only.
- Tap the TikTok clip you converted.
- Check that the play button is on, then tap Add.
- Tap Set as Wallpaper Pair, or Customize Home Screen for a different Home Screen.
“In iOS 17 or later, you can choose a Live Photo for your Lock Screen wallpaper so that your image plays whenever you wake up your device.”
Is there a faster way than going through Settings?
Yes. Apple also lets you touch and hold the Lock Screen to open the wallpaper gallery and add a new wallpaper from there. The choices are the same; it simply skips the Settings app.
Which iPhones can show it?
Apple's article names iOS 17 or later as the requirement. If your phone runs an older version, update iOS first, or use a still frame from the HD downloader as described further down; a still works on every iPhone.
Does the TikTok wallpaper move on the Home Screen too?
Apple describes the motion for the Lock Screen only. Its article says the image plays when you wake the device, and the Home Screen is set up as part of a wallpaper pair or customised separately. Expect a moving Lock Screen and a still Home Screen.
That is actually a sensible split. Your app icons sit on the Home Screen, so a calm background keeps them readable, while the Lock Screen is the moment you want the TikTok clip to come alive.
Can you use a different picture on the Home Screen?
Yes. Instead of Set as Wallpaper Pair, tap Customize Home Screen. Apple's wallpaper guide says you can pick a colour, use a custom photo or choose Blur so the apps stand out against your TikTok background.
Can the wallpaper change on its own?
Apple's guide explains that you can link a Lock Screen to a Focus, so the wallpaper switches when that Focus turns on. You could keep one TikTok wallpaper for Personal time and a quieter one for Work, each saved beforehand with the HD tool.
How long does a Live Photo wallpaper play?
A Live Photo taken with the iPhone camera covers 1.5 seconds before and 1.5 seconds after the shot, about 3 seconds in total. Apple does not publish the length of a Live Photo that TikTok creates, so treat 3 seconds as a guide and test your own clip.
“With Live Photos, your iPhone records what happens 1.5 seconds before and after you take a picture.”
Live Photos arrived with the iPhone 6s, which Apple announced on 9 September 2015, according to Wikipedia. Apple's Live Photos article still lists iPhone 6s and later as the models that can take them. Want the whole clip instead? Keep it with the TikTok HD downloader.
Can you choose which frame shows when it is not playing?
Yes. The still you see between plays is the key photo. Apple's steps: open the Live Photo in Photos, tap Edit, tap the Live Photo button, drag the white frame, then tap Make Key Photo and Done.
Do Loop and Bounce effects carry over to the wallpaper?
Apple's wallpaper article does not mention Loop, Bounce or Long Exposure, so we will not promise they play on the Lock Screen. If you try them, keep a copy of the original, since Apple warns that editing in a third-party app may remove Live Photo effects.
What if TikTok's Live Photo option is not there?
Save the post as a video file instead. Copy the link, paste it into the TikTok HD downloader and keep the sharpest MP4 TikTok serves. From that file you can pick a still frame on any phone, or use a video wallpaper on phones whose maker offers one.
- In TikTok, tap Share, then Copy link.
- Open the HD downloader in Safari, Chrome or any browser.
- Paste the link and start; a public post resolves in about 0.6 to 1.8 seconds in our tests.
- Save the MP4. If there is no HD copy, the standard TikTok video downloader still gives you a clean file.
Only public posts work. If a post is private, deleted or blocked in your region, or if TikTok does not serve the file, we cannot get it either. Download links expire after 1 hour, so save the file straight away.
Why use the HD copy for a wallpaper?
A wallpaper fills the whole screen, so softness shows. When TikTok stores a higher-quality copy, the HD tool fetches it from TikTok's own servers. That copy is often encoded as H.265 (HEVC), which keeps the file small for its quality.
Can an iPhone turn the MP4 into a Live Photo by itself?
Apple's help pages we read do not describe converting a normal video into a Live Photo, only the reverse. So on iPhone, a saved MP4 is best used as the source for a still frame, which you can set through Settings, Wallpaper, Photos.
How do you set a TikTok wallpaper on Android?
On a Google Pixel, touch and hold an empty spot on the Home screen, tap Wallpaper & style, then Change wallpaper and Choose a photo. Pick a frame saved with the HD downloader and tap Preview, then Apply. Samsung, Xiaomi and other makers use their own menu names.
- Touch and hold an empty space on the Home screen.
- Tap Wallpaper & style, then Change wallpaper.
- To treat the screens separately, choose Lock screen or Home screen.
- Tap Choose a photo and select your TikTok still.
- Tap Preview, then Apply.
Can a Pixel add motion to a TikTok still?
Yes, with Live effects. Google's steps: Wallpaper & style, Live effects, Photos, choose a photo, select Cinematic and turn on Add 3D motion to this photo. Google says the Cinematic effect needs a Pixel 6 or later; shape and weather effects need a Pixel 9a or later.
Can Android use the TikTok video itself as a live wallpaper?
Google's Pixel help does not describe setting your own video file as wallpaper. Some other Android makers add a video wallpaper choice in their own wallpaper or gallery apps. Check your maker's help pages for the exact steps rather than trusting menu names copied from another phone.
Why did Daily wallpaper stop showing my TikTok frame?
Google notes that Daily wallpaper does not work with personal photos or live wallpapers. If you switch Daily wallpaper on, it replaces your TikTok wallpaper with preset images, so leave it off.
How do you use a still image from TikTok as your wallpaper?
For a photo post, save the images with the TikTok photo downloader and set the one you like through your phone's wallpaper settings. For a video, pause on the frame you want and take a screenshot, or open the saved MP4 and capture it there.
- Photo slideshows: the photo tool lists every image in the post, so you can pick the best one.
- Videos: a frame grabbed from the HD file is sharper than one grabbed from the feed.
- Your own posts: TikTok's Save photo option in the Share panel works when downloads are allowed.
Why grab the frame from the saved file rather than the app?
In the app, buttons, captions and the progress bar often sit on top of the picture. The saved file shows only the video, so a screenshot of it gives you a clean TikTok wallpaper without cropping out interface clutter.
How does TikTok's own Save photo option work?
TikTok's Download content article explains it: open the photo post, tap Share, then Save photo. With several images, tap Select all or pick the ones you want, then tap Save. If the option is missing, the creator does not allow it.
How do iPhone and Android compare for a TikTok wallpaper?
iPhone has the most direct path to a moving TikTok wallpaper: TikTok's Live Photo plus Apple's Live Photo wallpaper. Pixel phones animate a still instead, using Cinematic 3D motion. Neither Apple nor Google documents using your own MP4 file as a wallpaper.
| Question | iPhone | Google Pixel |
|---|---|---|
| Where is the setting? | Settings › Wallpaper › Add New Wallpaper | Hold Home screen › Wallpaper & style |
| Moving TikTok clip | Yes, as a Live Photo on the Lock Screen | Not documented for your own clips |
| Motion from a still | Not documented | Live effects › Cinematic (Pixel 6+) |
| Minimum version | iOS 17 for Live Photo wallpapers | Pixel 6 for Cinematic |
| Separate Home Screen | Customize Home Screen | Choose Lock screen or Home screen |
Which result looks better?
That is taste. A real TikTok clip on iPhone keeps the original movement, while Pixel's Cinematic effect adds depth to a still frame. If motion matters most to you, the Live Photo route on iPhone is the closest match to the original video. For a crisp still on either phone, start from the HD copy.
Does a live TikTok wallpaper drain your battery?
Apple does not publish a battery figure for Live Photo wallpapers, so we will not guess one. What Apple does say is that Low Power Mode turns off some visual effects and reduces background activity, which is worth knowing if your wallpaper stops moving when the battery is low.
- Low Power Mode sets Auto-Lock to 30 seconds and reduces display brightness.
- It turns off some visual effects, Background App Refresh and email fetch.
- With Adaptive Power on, it switches on when the battery goes below 20%.
- It turns off again once you charge to 80% or higher.
How do you turn Low Power Mode on or off?
On iPhone 15 and later: Settings, Battery, Power Mode, then the Low Power Mode switch. On iPhone 14 and earlier: Settings, Battery, then the switch. You can also tap the battery icon in Control Center. The battery icon turns yellow while it is on.
Why is my TikTok wallpaper not moving, and how do you fix it?
Usually the file is not a Live Photo, the play button is off, or the post blocks conversion. Check those three first, then the system version and Low Power Mode. If the post itself will not load, try the TikTok downloader with a fresh link. The table below covers the common cases.
| Problem | Likely cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| No Live Photo option in TikTok | Creator turned downloads off | Use a still frame or a post that allows downloads |
| Clip not listed under Live Photo | It was saved as a normal video | Convert it in TikTok, or set a still frame |
| Wallpaper does not play | Play button switched off | Edit the wallpaper and turn play on |
| Motion stopped at low battery | Low Power Mode limits visual effects | Charge to 80% or switch the mode off |
| No Live Photo wallpaper choice | iOS older than 17 | Update iOS or use a still image |
| Pixel shows preset images | Daily wallpaper is on | Turn Daily wallpaper off and reapply |
| Downloader cannot read the post | Private, deleted or region-blocked | Try another public post |
| Download link stopped working | Links expire after 1 hour | Paste the TikTok link again |
The image looks cropped or zoomed. What can you do?
TikTok videos are tall, but your clock and widgets still cover part of the Lock Screen. In the wallpaper editor, pinch and drag to reposition the picture before you tap Add or Apply, and keep faces away from the clock area. A slideshow image from the photo tool often frames better than a video frame.
Which TikToks make the best wallpapers?
Calm, slow clips with one clear subject make the best TikTok wallpaper. Busy edits with fast cuts and on-screen text look messy behind a clock, and the short Live Photo length means only a moment of the clip plays anyway.
- Nature and weather: waves, rain on glass, drifting clouds.
- Pets: a cat blinking or a dog tilting its head.
- Your own memories: a clip you filmed and posted yourself.
- Art and timelapses: a slow brush stroke or a sky changing colour.
- Avoid: captions, logos and anything you would not want strangers to see.
Should the subject sit in the middle?
Lower is usually better. The Lock Screen clock sits near the top, so a subject in the lower half stays visible. Check the preview before you confirm and move the picture if the clock covers the important part.
Where do you find good clips in the first place?
Search TikTok for terms like aesthetic, rain or ocean, and save the ones you like to your favourites. Then come back to them and try the Live Photo option, or save the best ones with the HD downloader for later.
Can you use someone else's TikTok as your wallpaper?
For private use on your own phone, the practical test is whether the creator allows downloads: TikTok only offers the Live Photo and Save video options when they do. Never re-post, sell or share someone else's clip as your own. This is not legal advice.
- Your own TikToks are always the safest choice; the video downloader handles public posts you made.
- Respect a creator who turned downloads off; pick a different post.
- Do not upload the clip to wallpaper sites or apps as if it were yours.
- If you love a creator's work, follow them so they get credit.
Can creators stop people saving their videos?
Yes. In TikTok, Profile, Menu, Settings and privacy, Privacy, Downloads, the Video downloads switch controls it. TikTok says copies saved while the setting was on stay on the other person's device.
